User Guide

  • Overview

bExplore's GUI has three tab screens: Neighbor, File, and Help. The Neighbor tab screen displays Bluetooth (BT) devices. From this screen, user can search a remote BT device, browse and download files. The File tab screen displays files on a local mobile device. From this screen, user can browse files on the local device and upload files to a remote BT device. The Help tab gives a simple user guide. It also allows user to change default configuration.

  • Discover Bluetooth Devices Nearby

Go to Neighbor screen and run Discover command from Options menu. The BTs in range will be identified by a Bluetooth icon in blue and those out of range (from history searching) be indicated by an icon in grey. Run Delete command from the Options menu to delete BTs from history.

  • Browse Files on a Nearby Bluetooth Device

Go to Neighbor screen, first select a desired BT by clicking on up/down navigation key and then select Browse command from Options menu to get file list. A file is indicated by a file icon and a folder is indicated by a folder icon. Clicking on the fire key with a folder selected to switch into this folder.

  • Download Files from a Nearby Bluetooth Device

Go to Neighbor screen and retrieve file list from a desired BT (as described above), then select files or a folder to download. There are two ways to select multiple files: move cursor on a file and then hold the fire key for more than 2 seconds, or hold star key or pen key (on Nokia phone) and at the same time clicking on up/down navigation key (block selection).

Once files are selected, use Download command in Options menu to start download. You now have opportunity to chose a folder or create a new folder to save remote files. bExplore will maintain folder structure if a folder is downloaded. Please note that not all folders in a mobile device are writable.

  • Browse File from a Local Mobile Device

The File screen displays files retrieved from local device. A file is indicated by a file icon and a folder is indicated by a folder icon. When a file selected, clicking on the fire key will open this file. When a folder is selected, clicking on the fire key will switch into this folder. Note that bExplore uses services available in the local device to open a file, and therefore, certain types of file may not be able to open.

The Delete command can be used to delete files or a folder. Be careful that deleting a folder will delete both files and subfolders in this folder.

  • Upload Files To a Nearby Bluetooth Device

Go to File screen, select files or a folder for upload, and run Push command in the Options menu. A list of remote BTs will be displayed for you to select. If a desired BT is not shown, run Refresh command in Options menu to search BTs neaby. Once a remote BT is selected, run Push command and the root folder of this selected remote BT will be retrieved and displayed. You then select a folder and run Save command to finish the uploading.

  • Configure bExplore

At this moment, the only configurable item is the timeout used to discover remote BT devices. The defaut value is 10 seconds. To change this value, go to Help tab screen, and select Setting command from Options menu.
